On 8 July 2024 a Russian airstrike hit Okhmatdyt, Ukraine’s largest paediatric hospital which treats over 20000 patients a year, killing at least two people and destroying hospital infrastructure. Across 80 departments in central Kyiv, Okhmatdyt provides cancer treatment, transplants, surgery and emergency care to children and young people from all around the country - even providing care in basements during air alerts.
Appallingly this is not the first time medical facilities have been targeted during Russia’s war in Ukraine. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in 2022, the World Health Organisation has documented over 1800 attacks affecting Ukrainian medical sites and personnel. As well as damaging Okhmatdyt’s surgical and oncology departments, Russia’s airstrikes on Kyiv this week also hit the ISIDA Livoberezhna maternity clinic, and destroyed Okhmatdyt’s toxicology department which provides dialysis to children.
Legacy of War Foundation are supporting Okhmatdyt to ensure people across the world can donate to help them rebuild and provide critical care to Ukrainian children. We guarantee that 100% of the funds we raise will go to Okhmatdyt to continue their crucial work.

HOW we work
Legacy of War Foundation campaigns for a world without war, and supports the survivors and communities affected by it. Our founder and CEO, Giles Duley, has a long history of working in Ukraine and has been documenting the conflict in Donbass since 2015.
When the invasion began, we immediately reached out to our partner organisations on the ground. We have a track record of working alongside grassroots organisations who are experienced in providing vital support to their communities, and strive to work in solidarity and collaboration with partners on the ground. We ensure organisations with local experience can continue delivering crucial aid to those who need it the most - while we focus on coordinating funding, vetting partnerships, sourcing and purchasing specialist supplies, and bringing together partners to facilitate their work. Our ten guiding principles - designed in conjunction with our patrons, partners, trustees and staff - underpin all our work.
So far, we’ve delivered over £650000 of aid and donations weighing over 26t (more than four elephants!) to our partners in Ukraine - including fully-equipped ambulances, specialist medical equipment and medications, and wheelchairs and other mobility aids. About Legacy of War Foundation (UA)
