We believe that food brings communities together

But in some communities, like our ‘hometown’ of Hastings, on England’s south coast, huge numbers of people lack access to good quality, nutritious food, as well as the space and skills to grow fresh fruit and veg.

Community Kitchen

We’re running a pop-up community kitchen on Mondays and Tuesdays in St. Leonards turning surplus food into completely free meals! To get involved, email [email protected].

COMMUNITY GARDEN

In 2023, we’ll be running gardening activities targeted at young people, refugees and asylum seekers, and the wider community, before opening our own community garden later in the year.

Hastings Grows will enable us to build connections between UK communities and our overseas projects, with opportunities for skill-sharing and learning from our Land for Women cooperatives. We’ll use the site to educate about the impact of conflict and climate change. Just like our international projects, Hastings Grows will be led by the community, designed with sustainability in mind, and is intended to be financially independent within five years. Find out more about the values that guide our projects.

Our Hastings site will also allow us to test out new design-led adaptive gardening tools and techniques, which we’ll roll out internationally through our Land for Women and Land for All programs, to ensure people with disabilities aren’t excluded from community and market gardening.
